A rare Chinese green-glazed pottery tripod jar and cover, Tang dynasty, the cylindrical ribbed body is covered in a brilliant green glaze which pools between the ribs, the interior glazed amber, and the base and underside of cover unglazed, 12cm high Provenance: Ben Janssens Oriental Art, London, 2003 Note: The form is largely influenced by Han bronze prototypes, though it has also been suggested that the ribs serve to imitate turned wood. Vessels of this form are not uncommon, but it is extremely rare to find an example with its original cover. A similar example sold at Christie's, New York, 25th September 2020, Lot 1805 Another example is illustrated in Christie's Pictorial History of Chinese Ceramics, New Jersey, 1984, p.39, no.7
