A rare George III Lancashire solid mahogany low dresser, fit...
Hammer
£2,300
A rare George III Lancashire solid mahogany low dresser, fitted with an arrangement of six drawers with oak linings and two panelled cupboards flanked by fluted quarter columns, on bracket feet, 191cm wide, 56cm deep, 87cm high
It is unusual to see a regional dresser of this form in mahogany, the vast majority are in oak, occasionally with crossbanding in mahogany veneer. Liverpool and other ports in the region were importing mahogany logs at this period, so this may have been a special commission from a cabinet maker, normally working in oak.
