A set of six George III silver regimental dessert spoons, The Royal Cornwall and Devon Miners Regiment of Militia (The Royal Miners),

Provenance: a Private Collection of Regimental Silver.

Raised in 1798 at Bodmin. They spent time at Lyndhurst, Christchurch and Ringwood escorting French prisoners of War. They also spent time on the Isle of Wight and were back in Bodmin by 1802.

In 1811 the regiment were deployed to Ireland. In August of that year they landed at Monkstown and moved on to Cork on 24 August. It was probably just before their departure to Ireland that they purchased these spoons for the Officer's Mess. In 1909 the unit was disbanded.
