the set of ten rectangular stoneware dishes with high sides, painted in coloured underglaze enamels on a finely crackled cream ground, variously decorated with pines on a shore, morning glories, chrysanthemums, autumn maple leaves and river, descending geese, waves, chestnuts, a waterside pavilion beneath wisteria, bellflowers and plum blossoms, the sides decorated with foliate geometric pattern, iron-oxide under transparent glaze rim, each signed Kenzan on the flat base in underglaze iron-oxide
each approx. 16.3 x 16.7 x 2.8 cm.
Condition Report:
Overall, the set of ten dishes are in good condition, each with some minor kiln frits and firing imperfections, a few very minor losses to the glaze in places (particularly to the rims) which probably occurred during firing, Morning glories with firing imperfections and bubbling to the glaze to the exterior on one side, Chestnuts and Plum blossoms with firing imperfection along the base, Plum blossoms with a vertical hairline extending down the side of the bottom left corner, a small chip to the bottom let corner on the exterior, Waves with slight running of the iron oxide to the interior from the rim, Autumn maple leaves and river with a small area of loss to the glaze which probably occurred during firing.
