A silver-mounted flintlock rifle, Friedrich Ostermann, Copenhagen, circa 1710/20

Description: Round barrel with offset centre rib, smooth bore in 18.5 mm calibre. Sanded barrel surface, partially slightly pitted. The breech decorated with chiselled scrolling leaves. Lightly chiselled flintlock with engraved signature "F. Ostermann Copenhagen". Walnut full stock carved with rocailles, lightly coloured horn nose. Smooth silver furniture, the escutcheon engraved with a coat of arms surmounted by a tournament helmet. Wood ramrod with horn tip and threaded sleeve with bullet mould. Length 133 cm. Friedrich Ostermann, proven 1684 - 1719 in Copenhagen, working for the Danish royal court, became the person in charge for the ceremonial weapons at Rosenborg Castle.
