A small Roman bronze with the busts of two late Roman
Two emperor busts arranged side by side. Both with diadem and in paludamentum. Green patina with incrustations. Intact. Height 4.4 cm.
It should be a representation from the time of the reign of the (older) emperor (in the east) Theodosius II (408 - 450) and the (younger) emperor (in the west) Valentinian III. (425 - 455). The object must belong to a device used on the sovereign's behalf.
Provenance: From a Rhenish private collection, taken over from the father's collection, acquired on the German and Belgian art market in the 1960-1980s.
