A splendid pair of French Louis XVI andirons, Paris
Semi-circular bronze, fire-gilt and finely chased. Mounted on a contoured pedestal, the baluster-like cheeks rounded off with a truncated, fluted pilaster and pine cone finials, wrapped in acanthus leaves. A connecting decorative frieze with star and floral décor. The demi-lune pedestal with a repeating, decorative frieze and ending in a fully sculptured tripod with a border of rams' heads and a flame finial. Showing traces of age and use. The gilding is rubbed. Dimensions 42 x 41 x 14 cm.
Typical of the provenance, a pair of highly decorative andirons from the reign of Louis XVI. Made according to goût grec, in good condition and with a beautiful, aged patina.
