A wonderful Egyptian deep blue frit amulet of Bes

A wonderful Egyptian deep blue frit amulet of Bes, 3rd Intermediate Period, c. 1075 - 664 BC, the classic Egyptian protective deity in the form of a dwarf wearing a plumed headdress and featuring a lion's mane, ears, and tail. He stands on an oval integral base and rests his hands on his thighs. He was often seen as a protective deity of the household averting malevolence with knives, music or the sa sign, which was a protective symbol used by pregnant women and children, shielding them from evil. Beautifully preserved with a rich blue color and mounted on a wood block base. H: 1 5/8 in (4.2 cm). Ex Swope collection, New York.
