The current work is most likely an earlier beach scene by the artist. Whereas his later landscapes and beach scenes feature pastel color palettes and figures that seem to be floating in space, rather than being placed realistically in the scene, these figures have more weight and three-dimensionality. However, the beginnings of Walkowitz's Fauvist tendencies are present in the sketchiness of the background figures and the watery airiness of the larger swaths of color in the sky and ocean.
