AFTER ISIDORE JULES BONHEUR (FRENCH 1827-1901), A LARGE BRONZE EQUESTRIAN GROUP 'KINCSEM WITH ELIJAH MADDEN UP' 20TH CENTURY Depicting the successful horse and jockey, signed to cast naturalistic base 'I BONHEUR', set on mixed marble plinth approximately 75cm high overall, base 65.5 by 24cm From the 1860s onwards Bonheur exhibited a number of animalier bronze sculptures at the French Salons. Kincsem (1874-1887) was a Hungarian born thoroughbred with the most wins of any unbeaten horse in the history of the sport, having won 54 races from 54 starts. Her sire, Cambuscan, was bred by Queen Victoria. Has small casting lines visible through jockey eyes and face is slightly compressed. Lacks ends of spurs. The whole with old wax residue visible under UV and spot marks of old dirt residue. Casting remnants visible for example between jockey legs and horse. Small edge chips and knocks to base. Relatively good condition for relatively modern casting.
