KILLADOON HOUSE, PROPERTY FROM AN IMPORTANT IRISH ESTATE

AFTER SIR JOSHUA REYNOLDS
CARICATURE OF THOMAS BRUDENELL-BRUCE, 1ST EARL OF AILESBURY, THE HON. JOHN WARD, JOSEPH LEESON, LATER 2ND EARL OF MILLTOWN, AND JOSEPH HENRY OF STRAFFAN

oil on canvas, unlined, in a carved and gilt wood frame
58.7 x 43.6 cm.; 23⅛ x 17⅛ in.

Condition Report:
The canvas is unlined, the paint surface is dirty and the varnish is discoloured. There are faint stretcher marks along all four margins, and the texture of the paint surface on all four sides appears smoother than that of the central image. There is a rather pronounced network of craquelure particularly in the lower part of the painting. There is small loss in the lower left-hand corner, and a visible retouching in the upper left corner. Inspection under ultraviolet light confirms the aforementioned retouching and appears to reveal no other intervention. In overall good condition.
