designed 1933-1934
gilt bronze, paper shade
75¼ in. (191.1 cm) high
23½ in. (59.6 cm) diameter of shade

Condition Report:
Overall in good condition. The bronze surfaces throughout present with scattered minor surface scratches and abrasions consistent with age and gentle handling. The bronze with some occasional minor surface irregularities inherent in the making and casting, which are not visually distracting. The gilding presents with some light wear consistent with age and has slightly darkened with time. The gilding presents with a warm golden tones as seen in the catalogue illustration, with stronger traces of gilding visible in the recessed portions of the design. The stem presents with four areas of light discoloration to the gilt surface consistent with age and not visually distracting. The later shade is in fair condition overall, with light creasing to the paper throughout the surface and restoration to the paper covering an area measuring approximately 7 ½ x 6 inches. An iconic model by Alberto GIacometti with great figurative details and sculptural presence. Sotheby's does not guarantee electrical components and suggests having all wiring inspected by a licensed electrician.
