framed: 72.5 by 91.5 cm., 28.5 by 36 in.

Condition Report:
[The canvas has not been lined and has been strip-lined along the four framing edges. There is a fine pattern of hairline craquelure throughout, however not too distracting. With the exception of a small area of cosmetic retouching in the upper left corner, addressing some old flaking, and of some other small spots in the lower right corner, this work is overall in good condition and is ready to hang.

Presented in a dark wooden frame.]

Catalogue Note:
Having grown up in an intellectual family that encouraged her talent for drawing, Alphonsine de Challié studied painting under Charles Chaplin, one of the first artists to open his studio to female students among whom were Mary Cassatt, Louise Abbéma and Madeleine Lemaire. De Challié befriended fellow artist Berthe Morisot and exhibited regularly at the Salon between 1878 and 1882.
