(AMERICAN REVOLUTION--1776.) Journal of the House of Delegates of Virginia bound with At a General Assembly Begun and Held at the Capitol, in the City of Williamsburg. 145; 56 pages, plus a leaf of manuscript notes. Folio, modern 1/4 calf; title page with moderate wear and loss, backed on later paper, a few small areas of loss to first several leaves; light soiling. Williamsburg, VA: Alexander Purdie, 1776

Volume of laws from Revolutionary Virginia, the journal of the session begun 7 October 1776, a substantial portion of which was devoted to providing troops for the Continental Army and for the protection of Virginia. Resolutions included here include "An Act for raising six additional battalions of Infantry on the Continental establishment," as well as acts for funding said troops, and the appointment of naval officers. The ordinary business of the colony is also tended here, including numerous laws regarding slaves, mentions of incursions with local Indians, and the commerce and regulation of tobacco, wine, and other crops. The final blank leaf contains a list of books, divided by topic, apparently the contents of a previous owner's library. Evans 15204, 15203.
