§AN EMBELLISHED ZITAN 'TAOTIE MASK’ CIRCULAR BOX AND COVER
China, Qing Dynasty, 18th century
The sides of the cover with adorned with confronted phoenix as well as hearts and plum flowers, the side of the box adorned with taotie mask, the footrim of the box adorned with scrolls, the phoenix, the grecques and the scrolls inlaid in silver wires, the taotie masks and flowers set with mother of pearl, shell or coloured stones.
