AN EXCEPTIONAL LATE 19TH CENTURY CHINESE CARVED AND RED LACQUERED LONGCASE CLOCKthe Chinese case with parcel gilt decoration and painted and carved in relief throughout, with hood with free standing columns to the front angles carved with dragons, the hood side panels also carved with Chinese figures flanked by geometric borders and bats, the trunk with arched and bevelled glass door, the back panel within the case also finely carved with hunting scenes, pagodas and trees on a gilt ground, the plinth base also with carved panels to the front and sides, the English break-arch silvered dial with engraved decoration of acanthus leaves, the boss engraved with a swallow within a roundel, the single train, timepiece movement, weight driven and with triangular plates and deadbeat escapement, with pendulum and weight,219cm high
