ANTIQUE 19TH C RUSSIAN ICON OF OUR LADY OF KAZAN

An antique Russian Orthodox hand painted icon of Our Lady Hodegetria of Kazan. Tempera and gold leaf on a wooden panel with raised kovcheg borders. The icon shows the Virgin with her head inclined towards the Infant Christ at her left. The Christ Child is depicted in a frontal pose, raising his right hand in a blessing while his left hand is covered by the folds of his himation. Dates to the late 19th century.
