ANTIQUE 19TH C RUSSIAN ORTHODOX ICON OF RESURRECTION

An antique Russian Orthodox hand painted icon entailed The Resurrection and Descent into Hell. Egg tempera, gold leaf and gesso on wood. In the center of the icon is Jesus. He holds the hand of Adam, helping him rise from the grave; prophets, forefathers and righteous people are depicted behind Adams back. To the right of Christ are Eve, as well as Abel, Moses and other righteous people. At the bottom of the icon, the artist painted a black abyss with a bright red head - Beelzebub, the face of hell. He props up the gates of hell, to which the angels are approaching.
