ANTIQUE 19TH C RUSSIAN ORTHODOX WEDDING PAIR ICONS

An antique 19th century Russian Orthodox wedding pair of icons depicting Mother of God right-handed depicting the Mother of God holding Jesus Child with her right hand and Christ Pantokrator depicted with His left hand placed on the orb as a symbol of the supreme power, and His right hand raised in a gesture of blessing. Hand painted in oil on wood panels, the backside is lined with velvet. A wedding pair of icons is an iconographic composition of two icons: the Savior and the Most Holy Theotokos, which are used for blessing during the wedding sacrament.
