ATTRIBUTED TO THOMAS GAINSBOROUGH (BRITISH 1727-1788), OIL ON CANVAS, UNSIGNED, H 29", W 24", PORTRAIT OF ELIZABETH GOODIN-HAUGHTON TAYLOR :A Thomas Gainsborough (British 1727-1788), a portrait of Elizabeth Goddin-Haughton Taylor. Married Sir John Taylor, of the island of Jamaica, in 1778. The daughter of Richard Haughton I, who died in 1740. Provenance as per the David Stalker, Stalker Gallery. Inc., Troy, MI, October 18, 1988 insurance appraisal: Glen Arthus, Esquire, Ayr, England; Lord Thurlow, London, England; Senator Hardy, Toronto, Canada and C. Thomas Toppin, Detroit, MI. David Stalker also references the painting in the same appraisal as recorded in: Armstrong, Walter, "The Life & Work of Gainsborough", page 203. Also an earlier 1983 appraisal by Stalker of the same painting. See photo details for pictures of both appraisals.
Condition Report: This piece appears to show evidence of previous restoration, but it does not fluoresce under UV light. It has been professionally relined.
