ATTRIBUTED TO TIFFANY STUDIOS | AN EARLY AND RARE DECORATED VASE

[ translate ]

Property from the Collection of Lloyd and Barbara Macklowe
ATTRIBUTED TO TIFFANY STUDIOS
AN EARLY AND RARE DECORATED VASE

circa 1900
favrile glass
6¾ in. (17.1 cm) high

Condition Report:
Overall in very good condition. This highly complex and artistic vase is distinguished by the naturalistic “lava” branches that decorate its surface and its impressively thick glass walls. The vase is applied with luminous iridescence throughout and displays a range of naturalistic hues which emulate stone or tree bark. The glass with scattered extremely minute and fine surface scratches consistent with age and gentle handling. The glass with scattered minor surface irregularities, air bubbles, and particulate inclusions inherent in the making and not visually distracting. The vase with two annealing cracks inherent in the making: one measuring approximately 1/2 inch wide located on a large golden spot at mid-height of the body of the vase; the other to the rim of the vase to the right of the point from which the branches emanate measuring approximately 1 inch long. The rim with a small raised surface irregularity to the left of the point from which the branches emanate, not visually distracting. The interior of the vase with some minor traces of calcification. A rare and masterfully executed work.
