Chaim Yosef David Azulai (1724-1806) was a Jerusalem-born scholar who served as an emissary to Europe on behalf of the communities of the Land of Israel. Prevented from returning to Eretz Israel, he spent the last 28 years of his life in Livorno printing his scholarly and historical works.
