Very rare and original Abarth 1000 SP, regularly registered in Italy. *Chassis SE 04-0054 *Technical features *Engine 982 cc inline 4-cylinder *Overlapping quadrilaterals front suspension *Tubular arms + stabilising bars rear suspension *Front and rear disc brakes *Weight approx. 480 kg *Power 105 HP at 8,000 rpm *CSAI race tickets. *ASI registered no. 28514 History: The Fiat Abarth 1000 SP Barchetta is a race car designed to compete in the category up to 1000 cc. Designed by engineer Mario Colucci, it was launched in April 1966 and developed from the Fiat 850 Coupé, radically revised from chassis to mechanics. The very light tubular steel chassis and fibreglass bodywork limited the overall weight to just 480 kg, while the engine was still the same as the Fiat 600d (from which Abarth had started years before) which, suitably tuned, delivered 105 hp, pushing the 1000 SP to a top speed of 230 km/h. A final detail, not quite obvious today: the Fiat Abarth 1000SP is fitted with a five-speed manual gearbox. In 1968, after obtaining FIA approval for sports cars, it won in its category at Mugello, at Nürbugring and the ‘1000 km’ of Monza, but until 1971 its victories in uphill races all over Italy were countless. Arturo Merzario won the Campionato Italiano della Montagna in 1968, behind the wheel of this iconic Prototype Sport. Our Fiat Abarth 1000 SP. Mechanics and bodywork of the car are in excellent condition. Work carried out: original engine block replaced with that of the A112 Abarth. Original gearbox replaced with a Hewland gearbox. Cardan drive shaft replaced with another safer homokinetic model. Parking brake removed for Sport approval. Exhaust replaced with a more performing model. Increased brakes, widened wheel tracks with aluminium spacers. Car complete with original documentation and race tickets. Car history. The car was purchased from its previous owner in Spain and belonged to Jaume Juncosa Obiol, known as Runner (Barcelona 1941) , a former Catalan mechanic and driver in the Spanish Motorsport Championship. Jaume Juncosa Obiol’s father was the official Spanish importer of Abarth silencers and it seems that the car had been bought by Abarth itself, but unfortunately there is no trace of this step. Car equipped with MTC Turin technical certificate (microfilm no. 5TO/551963) , including certificate of origin of the car. Registered in the official Abarth Register and prepared according to appendix ‘J’ of the CSAI Regulations. CSAI race tickets. Car with number plate and a winning streak, driven by the last owner in its category in the years 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2018. The car was inspected and deemed original by Andrea Curami, President of the Collegio dei Probiviri del Registro Fiat Italiano and one of the world’s leading experts in historic and sports cars. Imported into Italy from Spain in 1988. Regularly registered in Italy and registered at ASI. The car is supplied with all documents, gearbox and original engine block replaced by an A112 Abarth engine block and more performing Hewland gearbox for races (also not to break the original ones, so that the car keeps its value) . Very rare and hard-to-find original rims are also available (they are very valuable) . Many other original parts are supplied with the car. We offer national and international shipping service. Any extra costs shall be borne by the buyer. This car can be viewed in Reggio Emilia, Italy.
