Adorable Nayarit Pottery Tripod Bowl w/ Dogs

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Nayarit, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A charming, hand-built pottery dish displaying 3 tapered legs supporting a rounded bottom, flared shoulder, and an annular rim capped with 4 petite canine figures. Each of the dogs faces inwards towards the basin of the bowl with their front paws on the rim and hind legs on the shoulder of the vessel. Each adorable animal raises its pointed snout topped with perky ears and juts out its petite tail. Enveloped in a pale orange slip, the exterior of the bowl is adorned with beige-painted striations while the interior features a lovely pattern of red-hued, concentric circles. Size: 8.6" in diameter x 5.4" H (21.8 cm x 13.7 cm)

Provenance: ex-private Southern California, USA collection, started in 1969; ex-private Baker collection
