An altar with its kyobako in black and gold varnish - Japan, Meiji period. Includes 3 books with sutra (okyo) Traces of wear, the family's coat of arms has lost a large part of the gold layer, thus letting the reddish lacquer show. Multiple spots with worn lacquer, chips, one back leg is cracked and has been restored. In reasonable condition Books in good condition. The surface and the interior of the kyobako are finished in a nashiji style. The sides in front and behind the surface are covered with floral motifs, magnificent. The book has a cover in purplish night blue silk with floral motifs. The inner paper is sparkling, giving a very special look to the Kanji characters. Magnificent books with good ends. Authentic piece of more than one century old, it definitely belonged to a member of the government (chrysanthemum - Kiku) and the Toyotomi clan.
