American school, 19th century oil on canvas oval portrait of a brown-eyed baby attired in a patterned red dress in front of a plain background. Unsigned. Housed in a period gilt and gesso frame with anthemion carvings. Sight: 16" H x 13" W. Framed: 21 1/2" H x 19" W.
PROVENANCE: The Estate of Raymond White, Nashville, Tennessee.
CONDITION: Scattered craquelure. No inpainting visible under UV light examination. Area of paint loss on child's hand, approximately 1/4". Some fleabite losses. Frame with expected wear and some restoration.
