Inscribed first edition of John Quincy Adams's speech commemorating the life and character of Revolutionary War hero the Marquis de Lafayette. Lafayette died on May 20, 1834, and this speech was read by Adams before both houses of Congress and a packed crowd of spectators, on December 31.
