Albany: J. Munsell, 1866. Second edition. 4to. (vi), 276 (4) pp. Extra-illustrated copy with an additional map and 12 color plates mounted on heavy stock paper, some ruled in ink. Full crushed green levant, decorated in gilt; top edge gilt, other edges untrimmed; marbled endpapers; bound by John Grabau at the Derome Bindery, Buffalo; housed in a worn marbled paper-covered clamshell box. Sabin 58367

John F. Grabau (1878-1948) was a Buffalo, based printer-turned bookbinder who trained with the Roycroft Bindery before founding his own Derome Bindery, in 1905. This book was displayed in an exhibition of his fine bindings, held at the Buffalo Fine Arts Academy, Albright Art Gallery, in 1930 (item #119).

A fine copy of a lovely production.
