Publication Date: c1784
Title: Amerique Septentrionale
Cartographer: ANONYMOUS
Publisher:
Height: 17.5
Width: 22.5

Unidentified French book illustration map showing the entire continent but calling the new United States the "Republique des XIII. provinces". Interesting Northwestern configurations based on the De L'Isle-Buache misconceptions. Has an island "I. Unalaschka Establissement Russe". Small peninsula marked "Alaschka" next to Bristol River and "Deux Volcans" spouting flames, and above Arctic Circle “Bornes des decouvertes des Anglois 1778”. In northern Arizona are "Nat. Apaches" and two towns called "Casa grande". 10 tribal villages and presidio names in Texas which is a part of "Louisiane" and "N. Leon". In western Canada are found "Dog Ribb's Indians" Odd place names such as Parrisburg in Georgia, "Bath" in North Carolina, "Jamestown" and “St. Marie” in Virginia, “Cambrigde” (sic) just south of Boston. "Kentucki" is a place name west of "Appalaches". Hawaii (Isles de Sandwich ou O-why-hee) only 15 degrees west of California and very large in size. Annotation about Cook's death in 1779. Oversize "Hudsons Bai". "Nouveau Mexique" extends north to Canada. Truly fascinating map for its anachronisms as well as its very up to date coverage of the newly established (1783) United States of America. Watermarks in laid paper: “ATEAS” on left and “S intertwined with C” on right. Intriguing historical display map. Possibly one of earliest to show the new United States. Early Map Showing New United States as “Republique Des XIII. Provinces Unies” ca 1784
