An Alexander II Russian provincial parcel gilt and niello 84 zolotnik (875 standard) silver saucer, circa 1860, makers mark obscured possibly MK
Of circular form with domed edges and scalloped rim. The edge with engraved and nielloed decoration of trailing flowers, all against a gilt textured ground. Marked to interior with standard mark, makers mark and an Austrian-Hungarian import mark Lemberg, Ukraine (1872-1902).
Diameter – 11 cm / 4.4 inches
Weight – 55 grams / 1.77 ozt
The makers mark is possibly Mikhail Ivanov Kopnov (1818-1896, master 1835) of Veliky Ustyug, who is described as “master of silver and niello, student of Alexander Zhilin” Postnikova 150-151.
