Barrie Freeman Antiques Quaker Point Farm, Maine, 1989. The Geoffrey and Fay Elliot collection. Literature: Illustrated in Animal in American Folk Art, Wendy Larrett, Knopf, New York, 1990, p.19. "This carving was found in a trunk in a New England attic where it had lain undiscovered for many years. The '1785' inscription on the base...remains a mystery, since the sculpture is thought to date from the early 19th century, c. 1825".
