An Egyptian Limestone Recumbent Lion

Ptolemaic Period to Roman Period, 2nd Century B.C.-1st Century A.D.

Height 10 3/4 x width 18 inches. Continental Decorative Arts
Intact as preserved. Losses to the top of the lion's left knee, both of his front legs, the bottom of his chin and parts of the ears. Several large gashes along his back. Erosion and uneven surfaces along the base; drilled to accomodate rods and a modern stone base. Otherwise with typical encrustation (faint) and areas of uneven patination. A few minor cracks. No obvious repair or restoration.
