An Egyptian faience multi-deity 'power' amulet
An Egyptian faience multi-deity 'power' amulet, Late Period - Ptolemaic, c. 664 - 30 BC, with four images of the god Pataikos wearing elements from other deities. The god's body is depicted on each form in a similar fashion, hands to side of rounded belly and wearing a broad collar. One wears a crown of double ostrich feathers, another a large solar disc, the third is depicted in the guise of Ra with falcon head and wearing a tripartite headdress. The fourth is depicted in the guise of Khnum, with bull's head and horns and wearing a large solar disc with uraeus who also is adorned with a solar disc and cow's horns. An attractive piece combining the powers of several deities in a fashion similar to the popular cippus amulets and carvings of the period, that also depict Pataikos as the slayer of enemies and protector from harm and disease. H: 2 5/8 in (6.8 cm). Well-preserved with good detail and remnants of light blue glaze. Ex New Jersey private collection, acquired in the 1970's; Ex Los Angeles private collection.
