An Egyptian glass heart bead, and two Egyptian glass papyrus column ear plugs
New Kingdom, Dynasty XVIII-XIX, circa 1350-1250 B.C.
The heart bead with opaque grey-blue body with yellow and white marvered trails; the ear plugs both in the form of a papyrus column with opaque blue bodies with white marvered decoration, all pierced longitudinally, 2 - 3cm high (3/4 - 1 1/4in high) (3)

Provenance: Private collection, Switzerland, acquired between the 1920s to early 1940s.
Christie's, London, Ancient Egyptian Glass and Faience from the 'Per-neb' Collection, Part III, 8 December 1993, lot 231.

Polychrome glass papyrus columns such as these would have been worn as earrings: they were pierced through their length and suspended from the lobe with wire (C. Andrews, Ancient Egyptian Jewellery, London, 1990, p. 111).
