An Egyptian wooden mask with long beard
An Egyptian wooden mask with long beard, Late Period, c. 664 - 332 BC, from an anthropoid sarcophagus lid, the face well-carved with the central portion of the headdress. It originally would have been plastered and then painted. It is unusual for having the facial portion and the beard fashioned from the same piece of wood. 17 1/4 x 6 7/8 in (43.7 x 17.5 cm). Some weathering and age splitting. Ex Wiltshire, UK private collection acquired in the 1970's.
