An English matchlock musket, dated 1640
Octagonal to round barrel with slightly reinforced muzzle. Smooth bore in 20 mm calibre. Applied iron sights, the date “WR 1640” struck at the breech. Rectangular pan with fire pan and pivoted cover. Matchlock with simple trigger, the hammer with an original piece of match cord. Walnut stock with slight worming in some places. The butt with small losses, the upper corner with good replacement. Smooth iron furniture. Original wooden ramrod with iron tip. Length 162 cm.Provenance: Previously the Rush Meyrick Collection, Herfordshire, depicted in in Joseph Skeleton, London 1830, Tf.
