An Irish provincial silver Celtic point spoon.
An Irish provincial silver Celtic point spoon, with engraved initials I.F to the terminal. Marked to reverse Sterling alongside a further partly worn mark, possibly Whelpley (or Whelply?), and tentatively attributed to John Whelpley, Cork, circa 1800. Length measures 6.75" (17.5cm), weight 23.4 grams.
Condition Report:
- Displaying some general surface wear, marks, scratches and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use.
- A couple of slight dints to heel of bowl. With slightly heavier wear around the edge and tip of bowl and metal feels a little thinner.
- Drop to heel reverse also with surface wear and some loss of definition.
- Marks are located to reverse of stem, these heavily rubbed and worn, especially the maker's name.
- Condition reports are offered as a guide only and we highly recommend inspecting any lot to satisfy yourself as to its condition.
