[ translate ]

An attractive beaded Sons of Horus group, Late Period, c. 664 - 30 BC, from the large beaded nets which covered some mummies of the period. The four Sons of Horus figures are stylized, and all resemble the falcon-headed deity Qebehsenuef, who protected the liver. The Sons of Horus were personifications of the four canopic jars which protected various organs of the body from early times, but eventually the practice of using physical jars was replaced with images of the deities after the 21st Dynasty. Each with linen cord and mounted in a lucite wall mount. Each measure about 3 1/4 in (8.3 cm) in length. Frame measures 10 1/4 x 4 1/8 in (26 x 10.5 cm). Ex Sailer collection, Austria.
