An early 20th century Burmese unmarked silver bowl

An early 20th century Burmese unmarked silver bowl, Rangoon circa 1910 of rounded circular form, the body with embossed decoration of six panels below architraves and foliate scrolls with rosettes. The panels probably depicting the Canda-Kumara jataka, with a scene of a seated King Ekaraja on his throne is beseeched by various kneeling figure not to kill Prince Canda along with his other sons, daughters, and wives. Further panels with the condemned kneeling and pleading with hands clasped, another depicting Prince Canda’s queen with a parasol bearer crying out to the god Sakka, another panel depicting the sacrificial temple, latter destroyed by Sakka. The final panel showing Prince Canda upon his throne when proclaimed King of Pupphavati after the exile of King Ekaraja. All these below a chased convex band above of foliate scrolls with rosettes and a band of stylised betel leaves with vacant centres. Diameter – 20 cm / 7.75 inches Weight – 808 grams / 25.98 ozt
