An early 20th century Chinese mahjong set
An early 20th century Chinese mahjong set, fitted in a wooden case with sliding front and five drawers with bamboo and bone pieces and further accessories, 23cm wide
Condition Report:
Lacking one metal handle to top, minor splitting to sliding panel, small restuck chip to front of one corner of sliding panel. One drawer damaged, with front detached and two divisions are loose. Minor remnants of old sticker to front lower right - visible in catalogue image. The sliding panel only seems to fit in the photographed position (see catalogue illustration) which means that the Chinese characters are upside down and the finishing edge strip is at the bottom rather than the top. The counters are approx. 3 cm x 2 cm x 7mm deep. Some minor wear and staining throughout although most counters are in good order. Circles - 36 Bamboos - 36 Flowers - 8 Characters only in green and red - 8 (4 in each colour) Numbers - 36 Characters (in blue)- 16 8 blank counters One of the counter sticks is cracked and repaired, some wear/minor staining staining. Some tears and damages to the instruction manual.
