An early Victorian silver sugar basket, the circular form with floral and foliate-scroll pierced sides surrounding twin opposed vacant cartouche, with an oval pierced swing handle and a blue glass liner with scalloped rim, the whole raised on a spread foliate detailed foot. Hallmarked London 1842, maker's mark partly distorted, probably John Edward Terry. Height to rim 3.5" (9cm), weight excluding glass 6.34 ozt (197.3 grams).
Condition Report:
- Displaying general surface wear, marks, scratches and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use.
- Some heavier tarnishing to the interior.
- Some likely small solder repairs to the pierced decoration, blobs of solder seen to interior in some areas.
- Swing handle appears in good working order and is self-supporting when upright.
- Possible engraving removal from the cartouches.
- Surface rubbing to areas of the decoration causing some slight loss of detail, but overall appears in good order.
- Blue glass liner with some minor nibbles around the rim. Scalloped edge is not evenly cut.
- Hallmarks located to lower body below the decoration, maker's mark partly worn but other marks all clearly legible.
