An important gilt copper alloy figure of Prajnaparamita. Nepal. 15/16th century

Seated in padmasana, she was originally positioned on a now-lost lotus throne. Her primary hands are held in the dharmachakra mudra at heart level – the gesture symbolising the teaching of the Wheel of Law. In her secondary hands, she holds a mala (rosary) and a pustaka (book). She is adorned with rich jewellery and wears a long dhoti, while a flowing shawl drapes around her shoulders. A radiant halo frames her head. With a stand.
