Anasazi Mesa Verde Black on White Pottery Bowl
Native American, southwestern United States, southern Colorado Plateau, Anasazi (Ancestral Puebloan), ca. 1200 to 1350 CE. A hand-built pottery bowl that could also have been used as a scoop. The vessel has a round but stable base, tall walls, a thick rim, and a deep basin. Jet black pigment is applied to create petite spots atop the rim as well as ten concentric rings enclosed with two thick bands within the basin. Size: 5.5" W x 2.625" H (14 cm x 6.7 cm)

Condition Report: Repaired from roughly seven or eight large pieces, with restoration to two missing areas and along some fissures, and resurfacing with overpainting along new material and break lines. Light abrasions to base, walls, and rim, with light fading to original pigment. Nice remains of original pigment along rim and within basin. Old inventory number "666" written in black ink beneath base.
