Anatolian Marble Kilia Idol Head, ex-Royal Athena

[ translate ]

**Originally Listed At $300**

Ancient Near East, Anatolia, present-day Turkey, ca. 2700 to 2500 BCE. A kilia head of characteristic form, carved from white marble. Kilia are highly stylized female figures made throughout the Mediterranean during the Chalcolithic period and Early Bronze Age. They are characterized by bulbous heads, long necks, and flat bodies with wide, flipper-like arms. When first made, the faces would have had painted details such as eyes. Archaeologists have interpreted these figures as female and call them "stargazers" because their heads are tilted upwards. Custom museum-quality display stand included. Size: 1.5" W x 1.625" H (3.8 cm x 4.1 cm); 3.625" H (9.2 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: Estate of R. Pearson, Denver, Colorado, USA; Mr. Pearson collected from the third quarter of the 20th century until he passed away.; ex-Royal-Athena Galleries, New York, USA

All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
