Tang dynasty, 618-907. Lot of two "Fat Lady" figures; China, Tang dynasty, 618-907. Terracotta decorated with cold-applied slip. Both attach thermoluminescence tests performed by A. S. A. Francine Maurer and by Lab. Ralf Kotalla, respectively. Heights: 34 and 36 cm. The Tang dynasty (618-756) constitutes one of the most flourishing periods in the history of Chinese art, this type of sculpture, the endearing «Fat ladies» figures with volume and corpulence, with looser clothing, were a clear reflection of the social role that women occupied in Chinese society. These figures of court ladies, touched with a complex hairstyle and richly dressed in tunics in light turquoise and reddish tones, are a clear example of these figures known as "fat ladies" by the canon of beauty of the time, which showed the Courtesans dressed in gala, with slightly round features. Provenance: Purchased by the current owner in 2011 in Madrid from a private collector (J. S.) , owned before 80's. The Supplier warrants that he obtained this lot legally. Provenance statement seen by Catawiki. Important information. The seller guarantees that he is entitled to ship this lot. The seller will take care that any necessary permits will be arranged. The seller will inform the buyer about this if this takes more than a few days. Important: For destinations out of Spanish territory: all our objects will be shipped after obtaining CERTIFICATE OF EXPORTATION by Ministry of Culture of Spain. We inform our clients that it may take between 4-8 weeks.
