Obtained from an old British collection, purchased from a collector in London. These Kohl Pots were used by both men and women for the holding of oils and ointments associated with elite burials. In daily life, Kohl was widely used amongst the royal family and elite of the pharaoh's court to outline the eyes, originally as protection against the sun, later as a decorative representation of the protective Udjat, or Eye of the god Horus. Usually these vessels are significantly smaller, c. 2. 5-3cm to stand on alabaster offering tables placed within the tomb.
