Ancient Elamite Copper Dagger w/ Bone Handle

**First Time At Auction**

Ancient Near East, modern day Iran, Kingdom of Elam, ca. late 2nd millennium BCE. A wonderful cast-copper dagger with an elongated profile, a thick midrib on either side, sharpened edges, and a lightly rounded tip. The blade tang is surrounded by a bell-shaped hand guard and a rounded handle made from bovine bone or that of another ungulate, and two additional bone panels enclose the handle and give the weapon a smooth grip. Size: 12.375" L x 1.25" W (31.4 cm x 3.2 cm)

Provenance: private Davis collection, Houston, Texas, USA, acquired prior to 2013; ex-private Cambridgeshire, England, United Kingdom collection

Condition Report: Minor nicks and abrasions to bone handle and blade, with slight bending to overall form of blade, and light encrustations, otherwise intact and very good. Nice earthen deposits and great patina throughout.
