The brief reign of Seleukos VI Epiphanes Nikator produced one of the rarest and most elusive silver series of the late Seleukid Kingdom. Struck at Antioch on the Orontes, this drachm belongs to a short-lived issue from the turbulent final years of the dynasty, a period marked by intense dynastic conflict and rapidly diminishing mint output. Of particular significance, only four other examples are recorded on CoinArchives, underscoring the exceptional rarity of the present specimen.
The obverse presents a finely engraved diademed portrait of Seleukos VI, while the reverse depicts Nike advancing left, holding a wreath, accompanied by the royal legend BAΣIΛEΩΣ ΣEΛEYKOY NIKATOPOΣ. Certified NGC XF with an outstanding Strike 5/5, the coin displays sharply defined devices, strong artistic detail, and attractive old cabinet toning, with only minor surface scuffs noted by the grading service. An exceptionally rare and historically important issue, further distinguished by its provenance from Roma Numismatics Ltd., Auction XXVII (22 March 2023), Lot 395, and an outstanding opportunity for the advanced collector of Hellenistic or ancient Greek coinage.
