Necklace from the Lady Gloria Dale collection. Carnelian and golden silver. Acquired between 1968-1973. Measures: 41 cm. Ex- Sotheby´s. Lady Dale lived in Lebanon between 1968 and 1973, when her husband Sir William Dale was general counsel of the United Nations Agency for Palestine refugees in the Middle East (UNRWA) . In these years, Lady Dale developed a growing interest in archeology which led her to study this discipline at the American University of Beirut, with Professor Dimitri Baramki with whom she had the opportunity to dig in Bekaa deposits. Lady Gloria Dale developed a special interest in ancient accounts, bought her first glass paste necklace from Roman times in Sidon from Michael Lahoud and made the decision to create a corpus of accounts from 7000 BC until the Byzantine Empire period . In 1980, the Bead Study Trust was created, of which Lady dale was one of the founders and treasurer. He created a collection of jewels that combined ancient beads with modern designs in golden silver, designs that were subsequently carried out by an Armenian jeweler, belonging to an ancient lineage of goldsmiths.
