Ancient Greek, Hellenistic Gilded Bronze decorative Applique- Female Head probably a Caryatid. The Caryatids were the priest of the goddess Artemis. Caryatids were used as an architectural support taking the place of a column or a pillar supporting an entablature on her head which makes the Erechtheion- temple dedicated both to Athena and Poseidon on the north side of the Acropolis of Athens in Greece very famous. Fully golden surface over bronze base and very expressive and fine style representive for the hellenistic era! Extremely rare. Material: Bronze Period: 4th-2nd. Century BC.
